Sarojini Naidu, known as the 'Nightingale of India' (Bharat Kokila), was an Indian poet, freedom fighter, and orator. Born on 13 February 1879 in Hyderabad, she was the first woman to become the Governor of an Indian state (Uttar Pradesh) and the second woman to become President of the Indian National Congress. A close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, she played a key role in the Civil Disobedience Movement.
